HIGHLIGHTED PERFORMERS

~Find Claire throughout the night to have your performance featured in our blog~

BitterxBroke

@bitterxbroke

Beginning our lovely Sunday evening, BitterxBroke play Ascension by Maxwell. Comprising of Yoshi, Jay, and Aaron, this dynamic trio doubles as an incredible back-line and band. No matter what you’re playing-a cover, an original, or even poetry-BitterxBroke know exactly how to elevate your performance.

Every Sunday evening our host Katrina Anastasia comes up with a question, and tonight we decided to ask: “How do you spread positivity?”

Yoshi cheekily responds “I like to spread positivity with my mouth.” He finds the act of ”speaking to someone else, complimenting them, singing, sharing the creative energy” enables joy in those around him.

Jay credits “spreading love overall. You never know what the person next to or in front of you is going through, so try to be nice to everyone and show love.”

Finally, Aaron says that he finds part of his profession the most impactful way he spreads positivity. “We produce people, back people in shows, to a certain degree we have this development thing that we do in our sessions.” He shares that people working with their band assume they have “it all figured out” but their sessions are a device to assure upcoming artists that they too are learning and developing through engagement and experience. He finds the most positivity is in encouraging artists to continue on their journey, and watching their growth is immensely impactful to him.

Sylus

@sun_laps

Our first sign-up of the evening, with familiar faces in toe, Sylus joins our stage. Sharing two original songs “Serene” and “Sanctuary,” he invites the audience on an introspective journey through his lyrical work.

Tonight I asked our performers, “What gives you energy?” and Sylus had a powerful admission. His “refusal to linger in complacency” is a driving force behind his artistic endeavors and life, propelling him to continuously reach new peaks.

When posed with the question of how he spreads positivity, Sylus responds succinctly but profoundly: "Facilitating it in any way I know how." This commitment to fostering positivity, not only through music but in all aspects of life, underscores the impact of his presence on the artistic community.

Sylus represents what we foster here at Sunday Sessions; a place where collaboration, artistry, growth, and the cultivation of positive energy.

Rich Freed

@rich_freed

I am beyond delighted to share our next performer for the first time ever: Rich Freed. He plays two highly anticipated unreleased songs “Into The Light” and “Last Goodbye.” Passion drives his sound, and he finds his energy best through applause and caffeine.

Although this is his first time here, Rich Freed has been an avid attendant of many open mics throughout Toronto, running his own on Tuesday’s at The Dive Shop. Supportive and wholeheartedly genuine, he is dedicated to nurturing the growth of fellow artists, offering his own stage as a canvas for performers to delve deeper into their artistic journeys. To me, his character represents the core facet to the Toronto music community--the celebration of each other’s growth and respective journeys.

Daniel Joe Armstrong

@danieljoearmstrong

Daniel Joe Armstrong surprises us tonight with beloved classics by Taylor Swift, “You Belong With Me” and “We Are Never Getting Back Together.” Daniel has a unique talent of reinventing classics with his own twist, making every performance unforgettable and nostalgic. As he strums his Katrina adorned guitar, his energy is fueled by two unique sources: the loving affirmation from his parents and the comforting embrace of a plate of spaghetti.

When asked about spreading positivity, Daniel shares his personal philosophy of “expressing emotions intensely and challenging the status quo.” Through the vibrations of his music and the boldness of his message, Daniel becomes a conduit for positive change, inspiring others to explore the depths of their emotions and break barriers.

Boi Blew

@boi_blew

Next up tonight, Boi Blew takes the stage to perform two original songs, "Fall Down" and "Same Vision New View." Boi Blew's energy and excitement is ignited by the creative process of going into the studio to record new music, an enthusiasm that infuses his performance with a vibrant spirit.

Boi Blew finds his positivity is most shared through his music, profoundly encapsulating the transformative power of melodies and lyrics to uplift, inspire, and create connections that transcend boundaries.

Tom

@2tomfine

Next, we welcome Tom into our space as he takes the stage to perform the timeless melodies of "Instant Karma" by John Lennon and "Don't Look Back in Anger" by Oasis. To Tom, the stage is not merely a platform; it's a source of energy and inspiration.

Tom spreads his positivity by singing. In his musical expressions, he taps into the universal language of music to convey emotions, tell stories, and uplift spirits, becoming a conduit for positive energy that transcends the boundaries of words.

Las Empanadas Mas Ricas

No Sunday Sessions is complete without the presence of our beloved vendor, Eva! For over a month now, she has been delighting our enthusiastic crowd with her culinary creations well into the evening. Offering an array of delectable flavors including pulled pork, chicken, beef, cheese, and lactose-free options, Eva ensures there's a delightful empanada to satisfy every palate.

Her journey in the empanada business began in July of last year, initially taking personal orders before swiftly expanding to cater events and handle larger orders. Eva has become a cherished weekly vendor, a fixture not only at OBJX's Sunday Sessions but also at Open Concepts every Tuesday.

Katrina Anastasia

@katrinaanastasia

Our host, the ever-talented Katrina Anastasia, takes center stage to open our second set with two new releases "Flow" with Distant Matter and "WDYS," made in collaboration with Danny Singh. Katrina’s energy derives from the creative process, especially the joy of crafting new music and jamming along to it in the car. You can see this in action too-she played WDYS on guitar for the first time, improvising the acoustic version in real time.

In response to the question of spreading positivity, Katrina's philosophy is as heartwarming as her melodies: "smile at strangers and acknowledge their presence." Her simple yet powerful gesture serves as a reminder that small acts of kindness can have a profound and contagious ripple effect.

Ziggiry

@zyhiphop

The embodiment of energy, Ziggary dances into the spotlight to perform two original compositions, “Vailer” and “Caliente.”

When asked about spreading positivity, Ziggary's response is succinct and resonant: "Through my music." He views his art as a vehicle to convey the message of positivity and playfulness that permeates his lifestyle and resonates with people from all stages of life.

Ziggary's performance becomes a conduit for good memories and a contagious message of joy that binds hearts harmoniously. In this, he embodies the spirit of Sunday Sessions—a celebration of artistic expression and the boundless positivity it can inspire.

Frisson

@frissonstyle

Taking the stage with an air of anticipation, Frisson presents his original creations, "Frisson's Blend" and "Holla," infusing our space with his unique musical tapestry. His energy finds its wellspring in the trifecta of music, women, and spirituality, a testament to the myriad sources of inspiration that drive his artistic journey.

When the question of spreading positivity arises, Frisson's response is rooted in authenticity: "truth to people and myself." This unwavering commitment to honesty forms the bedrock of his message, an invitation for both himself and others to introspect and grow. In his own words, it's about recognizing when change is necessary and striving for personal evolution.

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

With the jam session concluded, the artists share heartfelt hugs and smiles, grateful for the opportunity to share their artistry with each other in such a cherished space. As the audience begins to disperse, they carry with them the memory of this magical night.

As the studio lights dim and we re-stage our space, the spirit of creativity and camaraderie remain. Until the next gathering, the legend of OBJX Studio lives on, a place where music, passion, and friendship converge, leaving an everlasting impact on all who step through its doors.

See you next Sunday!

Love always,

OBJX
