HIGHLIGHTED PERFORMERS

~Find Claire throughout the night to have your performance featured in our blog~

Markus Cole

@markuscole

Singing over his original songs "Heart Won't Breathe" and "Heaven on Hold," Markus’ music calls for connection, and his lyrics resonate through the crowd.

My question for my interviewees tonight is:

“Where do you start with your creative process?”

To which, Markus revealed that it all starts with a feeling, then allowing himself the freedom to be open, curious, and free from judgment or preconceived notions—immersing himself in the moment and receiving higher frequencies.

Our question of the night is “What’s a piece of advice you would give yourself five years ago?” and, reflecting back, Markus shares sage advice he'd give his younger self: "Follow your gut instincts, always believe in them, and don't be fearful." His counsel to lead with passion reminds us to trust one's inner compass and embrace the journey with unwavering determination.

AxR

@wholostaxrus

Next up on stage, the man of many hats and artistic knacks, AxR performs two of his original songs "Phantoms" and "Scream in Silence." A beloved patron at OBJX, AxR can be found at both of our open mics, Sunday Sessions and Open Concepts. In addition to his music and mixing, AxR also has credit to many of the photos captured tonight! Thank you for sharing your talent with the OBJX family.

When delving into his creative process, AxR reveals that it typically kicks off with a beat or a conceptual idea, often utilizing his own existing beats as a starting point. He navigates through melodies, letting ideas flow freely, even if it feels initially perplexing—an organic process that births the music before us.

Reflecting on his journey, AxR shares that he would prioritize personal artistic development before establishing himself as an artist. His wisdom underscores the importance of honing one's craft, connecting with fellow artists, and nurturing collaborative relationships—a process that takes years to develop but is found within the walls of this studio.

Lucas Schiavello

@lucasschiavello

Lucas, accompanying AxR on stage, kindles his musical flame through spontaneous guitar improvisation. In retrospect, his only wish for his younger self is to have started his musical journey earlier, possibly attending music school for a broader knowledge base and an altered trajectory. No matter how things could have shaped out, we are glad to have you here sharing your talent with us now!

Peace Spice

@peacespicemusic

Following soon after, Peace Spice and his band gather on stage to perform his original music “Living to love” and “Dear Lady.” He finds that his music is best found in nature, the soundscape of a natural environment inspiring his melodies. As well, Peace Spice discovered that his anxiety to perform inspires him to jam and create music further, “I like feeling uncomfortable” he says. This impulsion to move forward despite his nerves speaks immensely to the creative industry. Listen to your body, but don’t let it hold you back.

In response to the question of the night, Peace Spice humbly refrains from portraying himself as a sage, even in the present, to offer advice to his younger self from five years ago. His reflection resonates with the profound idea that wisdom and insight is continually evolving, and the past is a small chapter in a lifelong journey of growth and learning.

Outside the doors of OBJX Studio, Peace Spice is hosting an event on Friday, October 6th, in collaboration with Katrina Anastasia, UNITY, Bite, and Claire Stacey. If you are looking for a space to connect with fellow artists, jam, and make memories, join us at Tail of The Junction at 8pm. Hope to see you there!

Bella

@isabella_tucci

Next up on stage for her very first time, Bella Tucci! In dedication to Samir, a beloved friend who is embarking on his next chapter, Bella shares a heartfelt original song entitled “Never Forget.” Bella's creative process is a testament to the power of freestyling on beats, allowing her thoughts to flow freely, then meticulously shaping her lyrics afterward.

To her younger self, Bella offers a heartfelt reminder: "Be resilient. It isn't going to be like this forever, you have a beautiful life ahead of you, don't give up." Her words echo with the wisdom born from experience, an encouraging embrace to persist through life's challenges and savor the promise of the future.

Samir

@samir_trbl

Heavy hearts and outstretched hands went to the stage as Samir entered. A loved member of our OBJX family, Samir is on his way to Edmonton, carving a path of his own. Change is always difficult, but he always has a home with us. Tonight, Samir sang us “Redemption Song” by Bob Marley. Samir finds that his soulful writing and creative endeavors are found best in a flow state.

When posed with our question of the night, Samir imparts a timeless piece of wisdom: "trust your intuition." His words echo as a guiding light, a reminder to heed the whispers of one's inner wisdom as they navigate life's trials. Samir's heartfelt message reminds us that even in change, the bonds of friends and family are unwavering.

Las Empanadas Mas Ricas

No Sunday Sessions is complete without the presence of our beloved vendor, Eva! For over a month now, she has been delighting our enthusiastic crowd with her culinary creations well into the evening. Offering an array of delectable flavors including pulled pork, chicken, beef, cheese, and lactose-free options, Eva ensures there's a delightful empanada to satisfy every palate.

Her journey in the empanada business began in July of last year, initially taking personal orders before swiftly expanding to cater events and handle larger orders. Eva has become a cherished weekly vendor, a fixture not only at OBJX's Sunday Sessions but also at Open Concepts every Tuesday.

Katrina Anastasia

@katrinaanastasia

From her EP "It's Cool To Care," Katrina treats us to her song "Wish I Didn't Know Ya." This poignant piece is born from the depths of hurt, a testament to the pain inflicted by someone close, still raw and unprocessed. Katrina's music stands as a unique journey, guiding listeners from the depths of pain to the path of healing, her songwriting process rooted primarily in freestyling—an unbridled flow of emotions and thoughts.

In response to the question of the night, Katrina imparts a valuable lesson: "Only listen to the advice of those you admire." Her words are a compass for navigating life's complexities, reminding us of the significance of seeking wisdom from sources that align with one's values and aspirations.

Daniel Joe Armstrong

@danieljoearmstrong

Daniel Joe Armstrong performed an original song "The Nosebleed Section" and a cover "Why Won't You Love Me?" by 5SOS. When asked about his creative process, he revealed that he begins with a specific person in mind and selects a theme or main idea to inspire his lyrics, with melodies developing later. This peek into his songwriting process highlights the emotional depth behind his music.

In response to the question about advice for his past self five years ago, Daniel offered a candid reflection. He emphasized the importance of self-care and urged himself to steer clear of drugs. His advice resonates with the idea that taking calculated risks is valuable, but not all risks are worth pursuing when the rewards are minimal. This wisdom reflects personal growth and a commitment to a healthier, more focused life journey.

D1 Wav

d1wav

A surprise guest, D1 Wav, infuses the atmosphere with contagious energy and vibrant vibrations. The crowd stands to dance along to his songs, "Riddim and Vibes" and "Pop One Pop Two." When creating his music, D1 asks himself “What would a saxophone do on this beat, and then I do it,” creating the smooth soulful lyrics we heard today.

In response to the question of the night, D1 imparts a valuable lesson to his past self: "Know your worth so that the people that don't can't use you." These words serve as a powerful reminder of self-value and the importance of guarding one's boundaries in the journey of life.

Claire Stacey

@claire_stacey72

Performing a cover called “Daddy” by Charlotte Cardin and her original “VICES,” Claire Stacey is called back to the stage. She finds her inspiration through the depths of her emotions, free-styling and accessing the subconscious, as a way to process and allow others to do the same.

In response to our QOTN, Claire tells the audience to simply “Do it. Do it scared. Do it even when others say you can’t. Do it for yourself. Follow your heart and do not take that shit for granted. Your intuition is telling you to move, it’s telling you to grow. You need to do what alights your purpose otherwise you’re stifling yourself.”

Blud Mari

@bludmari

Blud Mari joins us with a passionate rendition of his original creations, "Soul Divide" and "Hereditary." When delving into his creative process, he reveals that it all starts “In the feeling, I really feel what I’m going through.” Freestyling plays a pivotal role, allowing the flow to emerge organically, weaving together the threads of his artistry.

Advice that reverberates through the walls tonight, Blud Mari urges his younger self to:

“Trust yourself, don't take criticism from people you wouldn't take advice from. If you feel it in your heart that matters most.” Reminding us all to trust our inner-guides and intuition, filtering out criticism and distractions from your purpose.

Raamel

@raamelaristotle

Raamel's performance, featuring "Kissing in The Car" and his upcoming release of "Scarlett Lipstick" on September 22nd, left a lasting impression. Fans eager to hear more can check out his Instagram for updates on this exciting new song.

When delving into his creative process, Raamel, a dedicated songwriter, begins with melodies sparked by life experiences or media. These ideas find their home in his voice notes, where they evolve into lyrics, melodies, and rhymes.

Reflecting on the past, Raamel imparts a heartfelt piece of advice to his younger self: "Release music. Don't listen to the people who tell you that you can't. In life, you shouldn't have any regrets. If you're passionate about music, release it. Don't let anyone deter you from your dreams." An important reminder to us all to pursue one's passions with unwavering determination and to let creativity flow without inhibition.
